Technology has developed a more cost effective way to make Iron from Iron ore (iron oxide). This technology replaces the traditional Blast Furnace and Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) plants with Direct Reduction Iron reactor (DRI) that then feeds an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). The DRI process is being used by Steel Mini-Mill to provide a second source of iron in lieu of scrap steel. The process and delivery of the DRI iron called Sponge Iron will be explained and how it is moved to various mills around the world.
